| Description: | To develop a second-generation FC Arbitrated Loop definition, including the definition of new services for real-time applications. This definition will be fully backwards-compatible with the definition contained in FC-AL, but will also incorporate significant new technologies and function. Included within the recommended scope for this project are: a) The definition of additional topologies and performance consideration made possible by the additional physical variants, the multiple Node Port services (hunt groups, multicast etc.) and the fractional bandwidth services being defined by FC-PH-2. b) The definition of additional services to allow multiple Node Ports to communicate, such as additional forms of multicast, which are specifically optimized for arbitrated loop topologies. c) The definition of additional services which support the concepts of fine-grained or time-synchronized parallel storage and processing applications being based upon arbitrated loop structures. d) Other additional functions. Note that this scope specifically excludes the definition of both additional physical interface variants and of high level protocols and their mappings. Use will be made of the interface definitions provided by the FC-PH-2 project and its successors, and of existing practice in the area of protocols for fine-grained or time-synchronized operation. | |

| T11 History: | A T11 Letter Ballot on Revision 5.7 closed on 10/2/97 with F60-O10-DNV13 (4 For ballots included comments, and with the Opposed ballots a total of over 500 comments were returned). Because of the length of time which had passed after the original T11 Letter Ballot, it was decided to hold an additional forwarding T11 LB. T11 online LB (98-449v0) "to forward Rev 6.4 (98-170v3) for further processing, including a Compliance Review and a first Public Review" closes on 9/29. Note that subsequent projects not otherwise recorded were generated for FC-AL-2 Amendment 1 (Project proposal not recorded) and for FC-AL-2 Amendment 2 (Project proposal T11/05-565v1) were subsequently approved and not recorded elsewhere. | |
