FC-BB March 7, 2000 FC-BB Draft Minutes

A short FC-BB meeting was held to discuss SONET and BBW addressing.

Lucent made a presentation regarding FC over IP/SONET and discussed
the state of the SONET portion of FC-BB. The presentation is posted
on the T11 site as 00-164v0.pdf.

In summary Lucent stated that FC-BB should go forward if the 
HDLC frame format be corrected to include protocol id field that
is missing. 

Lucent also recommended that another mechanism be used
besides LLC/SNAP, and that the SR protocol be made optional as it is 
quite heavy weight.

With regard to BBW addressing the group agreed that in order to get
BB to letter ballot, any dynamic protocol to establish BBW addresses 
should be deferred until FC-BB2.

The group agreed that we should attempt letter ballot in April, but we
would entertain a light weight flow control mechanism if provided by
Lucent in time.

Action Items

1) Murali - Correct HDLC Frame - Protcol ID
2) Kumar - Check with NTT for SONET input (FC-BB2).
3) Murali - Check on making SR flow control optional.
4) Murali - Check with CNT about using using an alternate protocol ID 
field instead of SNAP/LLC.
5) Elizabeth - Simple Flow Control for SONET, check on providing
by April.
